Medical Detection Dogs
Medical Detection Dogs is a UK based charity that trains dogs to save lives using their amazing sense of small.
The charity’s Bio Detection Dogs are trained to identify diseases like cancer, Parkinson’s and malaria from human samples in their training room. This work could help scientists and medics develop faster, cheaper, non-invasive methods of diagnosis that could impact upon thousands of lives. Medical Alert Assistant Dogs support people with complex health conditions who have no awareness of an impending life-threatening medical event by detecting even the most minute changes in their smell and alerting them.
This charity’s dogs are currently supporting people who suffer with illnesses such as:
- Addison’s disease
- Type 1 diabetes
- Severe allergies
- Post Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS)
- Sudden health deterioration
Royal Canin and Medical Detection Dogs
Royal Canin are proud to continuously support the amazing work that Medical Detection Dogs do all over the UK. For many years, we have provided this charity’s highly-trained dogs with complete and nutritionally balanced food that is specially tailored to support their ongoing health and wellbeing.
Help Medical Detection Dogs save lives
Due to late diagnosis, cancer survival rates in the UK are amongst the worst in Europe. The work that Medical Detection Dogs do can help to improve early detection and diagnosis of cancer and other illnesses, giving individuals with medical issues a greater chance of early treatment and recovery.
Medical Detection Dogs receive no government funding for the work that they do, meaning the charity relies entirely on the generosity of donations from the public and from trusts.
